4 years later

Posted on June 19, 2023June 19, 2023 by Susan Sey

Hello, team.

I’m back.

You may be wondering what I’m doing here. I’m wondering that myself.

I sailed out of this world on a foul-mouth (typical) rant a few years back & had no concrete expectation of returning. I still don’t, to be honest.

I’m a teacher now, & before you panic, I teach adults. I fully recognize that my potty mouth & my publishing history make me the last person in the multiverse equipped to shape young minds.

And I love my job. I really do. You can’t not adore adult learners. They are the best.

But my website broke down recently. Which was part of the master plan. My website (like my writing career) was supposed to go gently into that good night while I was looking the other way

But when it actually happened, something in me just…couldn’t let it go. I was making all of $5 a month in passive income, after all. Fancy coffee money, yo.

So I decided to fix it. Bare minimum effort, you understand. Just enough for the occasional fancy coffee. But guess what happens when you update a website you haven’t touched in 5 years?

Turns out you have to re-write a bunch of pages. Which means coming face to face with books you wrote a long time ago. Which means reading your own writing & remembering how much you loved a character, or a plotline, or a fictional dog.

Or just the act of creating. Even if you’re only ever going to make fancy coffee money.

So I’m not saying I’m back.

But I’m here. And I’m dreaming. Just a little. About putting words on the page again, just because I love it.

So hi.

Hello again.

I’m really happy to see you.

And if you want to read the tiny little short story that made me read my own writing again & start me dreaming, check out the FREE READS page of my books section. I was invited (years ago) to participate in an anthology of short stories & UNWRAPPED was my contribution.

I never write short but I will take any opportunity to make a horrible villain the hero of the next book. I like seeing them claw their way to redemption. And this is that. Good old Sloan.

Enjoy & I hope to see you around!

Please start writing again! I loved your books and I’ve been fruitlessly hoping for new ones.

That’s so kind, Kathy! I always have a little idea cooking, so there’s always hoped!

Are you really back? I am so happy! You don’t have to cook ALL the ideas. I don’t mind the raw ones at all!

Wow! After reading that someone so talented decided to opt out, I had to read Unwrapped. I then bought Picture Me and You, and Kiss the Girl. Please come back, you’re good.
I live in Minneapolis, I have dogs, and I write. Of course, writing often leads to foul mouthed rants.

I should have known! A writer will always understand the foul-mouthed ranting! And you also have dogs? We’re like twins! Delighted to have you for a neighbor!

I’d love to see you back! I so enjoyed the devil’s kettle series & the money books. I just realized I hadn’t read the trouble series and I’m about halfway through the first one. Your writing is so witty and clever! I really hope we get to see more books someday 🙂

I’m re-reading the Devil’s Kettle books, as I seem to do at least once a year. They are some of the best there is. If life is good and there is reason not to write, I get that. But just know that these beautiful characters that came out of your head are loved and a forever part of my fictional family.
